Hello Family! How are you all doing? Sounds like you had another fun and exciting week! Things have been good here. Exciting news, we now have a roof! YAY! But not a ceiling yet, so we are still sleeping downstairs on the floor. It has been interesting not really having a room, but I am grateful that the roof is getting fixed. And we have had perfect weather for not having a roof, which is also a blessing!! So this week has been good. Just working hard. We have been really trying to expand our teaching pool. It is really hard when we don't have referrals from members. The people that we find by ourselves sometimes don't last very long. Referrals from members are so important. Before my mission I didn't realize how important they are, but it really helps the work here. I am grateful that you guys help the missionaries so much there in Park City , and I am sure they are grateful too. 

The other day I was reading "Jesus the Christ". It said there that the people one the other side need us to do their work for them, but we need to do the work in order to be saved. It really opened my eyes to how important the temple is. I miss going there. I have realized how I took the temple for advantage when I was at home. It really is the house of the Lord and we need to be more valiant in our church attendance. I am grateful that you guys go once a week. It is so important! 

Did you guys see the moon this week??? Holy cow it was soooooooooo pretty! Here is a picture of the moon. I hope it was the right one and wasn't too blurry, but seriously it was so gorgeous!! 

Some funnies: well just one really. But we were teaching a less active member and his son was sleeping on the couch ( he was drunk), and he started snoring. I was trying so hard not to laugh during the lesson. It was so funny! And brother Fanklin didn't seem to notice. But it was pretty funny! And in the beginning of our lessons we always sing. Sometimes I sing the wrong notes or words and start laughing.... giggling. I really need to work on that. Sometimes it's hard though, but it is funny! 

This is mostly for Kristin, but the other day we were walking and this old lady, as in old, was dancing to "Girl look at that body" I can't remember the little but it's the song, I work out.... You know it right? I was laughing so hard. 

Also this week I ate homemade peanuts, which we sooooooo delicious!!!!!!!!! But it reminded me of Grandpa Colt and how he always had peanuts. He would have loved these peanuts. They were yummy! 

Well the people here are great. I am really coming to love them so much! They are such hard workers. I have really seen what it means to be diligent and work hard just to live. I am so grateful for their example to me. I know that this is the true work of God. Every day I see his hand in our work. I am so grateful for the privilege  to serve a mission. We need to be preparing every day for the day when we will meet our Father in Heaven. We don't know when it will be, so we need to always be prepared because we will be judged on our works in this life and what we did with our time and experiences. I know that the Lord wants us to succeed and that is why we have the Atonement and a beautiful plan to return to our father. Thank you so much for all you guys do. I know that if we are diligent and obedient, the Lord will always provide a way for us. I love you all so much! Have a great week! You all are the best! Christmas call coming up!!! I'm excited. And we have transfers December 14. So either Sister Sandoy or I will be transferred. We will find out the Wednesday before. I am kind of sad because I love Sister Sandoy so much, but I know that wherever I go and whoever my companion is is who the Lord wants me to be with and where he needs me. I just need to trust in him. I love you all! Keep being great :) Have an awesome week!

Hello Family!!

So the first picture is of our room.... Yes we don't have a roof. The was a hole in it, so everytime it rained we had a ton of water in our room. So they are fixing it. So it means that we are studying in the kitchen and sleeping on the floor in the other sisters room.... It has been interesting. Studying has been a little distracting with all the noises, but it's been ok. I'm just grateful the roof is getting fixed! Today we had a district activity. We went to the mountain, I don't know the name of it, but it was really pretty. I guess on the other side of where we were they have a zip line, hot springs, golf course. Pretty fun. We got to hold a snake, which was awesome. The elders in our district are super great. It was a good time. But we are really tired now because it was a lot of hiking. Hopefully we'll have time for a nap now. 

This week has been pretty good. Just been working away. I haven't talked a lot about the language lately because it hasn't really changed... haha. It is still really hard for me. It is a little easier to understand in lessons. So that is good. And the members talk to me, so it is good. It is still really challenging. But it is getting better. Yesterday we had ward conference. It was good. We have 15 focus names in our area. Yesterday morning the stake and ward leaders and missionaries went and visited them. I think it was effective. Some less actives that haven't been to church came, so it was good. 

Sorry this is short, but the time is far spent. I will send more pictures next week from our district activity. On top of the mountain there was a mini zoo, which was really cool. The had a snake, ostrich, peacock, pheasants, and other birds. Well I love you guys so much. Sorry this is short and kind of scattered. The church is true. I am grateful that I am a missionary and able to spread this great gospel. I love you guys so much. Have a great week! Love you!!!!

Hello Family! How are you guys doing? Looks like the boys had fun on their deer hunt!! A successful year for them! And despite all the crazy foods here, I actually enjoy them, a lot! A member said to me yesterday that I was getting skinny and the other sister missionary that is in our apartment (not my companion) was like, how is she getting skinny? She eats rice everyday? I guess rice make syou gain weight. So I need to watch out for that. But it was pretty funny.

So this week was good. We have really been trying to find people to teach, less actives, and investigators. We went to a new area, or rather gathering of houses, and did preach by the ways there, or just talked to people and shared a quick message. We found a lady who used to take the missionary lessons. So hopefully she is ready now. Last night we were talking to a member. Sister Sandoy and I have really been trying to figure out how we can help these people. They often don't want to listen to us. but the people in Santo Tomas which is in our ward but on the other side of the freeway, they are more accepting over there. So anyways, the member was saying that the dike, or one of the "neighborhoods" in our area is like the slum. So the people in our area are really really poor. and they need to work really really hard in order to provide for their families. Sister Sandoy said to me after we left the members house, that maybe they aren't necessarily hard hearted, they just need to work and feel like they don't have time. They are super busy. We need to show them that through the gospel the Lord will prosper them in the land as well as spiritually. We continue to pray for them day and night.

Last week Bishop's brother died. He was an alcoholic. We went to the wake and Sister Sandoy spoke too. It was just at his house. I saw my first dead person here. It was kind of interesting... Kind of gave me the shivers... but that's ok. After the service we sang hymns. It was cool becuase we were singing hymns and then the people that we above us (we were like on a hill) were gambling, drinking and smoking. It really was so contrast, but it showed where the spirit was. I hope that maybe they felt it too. Hopefully.

The picture that is of me with my three words is in one of our areas. It is San Bartolome. It is so pretty there. There are many rice fields. That's what I am standing in front of. They go on forever. Harvest season just ended, so now the rice fields aren't as green. But it is still really pretty. The pictures of us in our jersey's are outside of our apartment. There is a field with like squash or something there. It is really pretty though. The Dike is also in our area. That isn't as pretty. There are just a bunch of houses. But it is ok. Where I am is kind of like Park City. It isn't a really big city but it isn't like in the middle of no where. It is really pretty.

Well my time is about up. Thank you all for your support and prayers. I love you all so much. This is the true church, and only through this church will we find true happiness. I love you all so much. Thank you for everything!!!!!

Hello Family! How are you all doing? I am glad to hear that the boys all got deer!! Yay! That's awesome. And that the girls had fun too. I can't believe it is snowing there, and there is snow on the ground! Holy cow! Yeah, it's still really, really hot here! Like I am sweaty all the time. But it's ok. I'm getting a little used to it. Like sometimes when there is a fan on I get the chills.... Maybe I'm meant to be here after all in the heat. This week has been pretty good. It has been a little hard though. A lot of walking and a lot of times we have been punted (when people aren't there, or they are "busy" and can't listen to us). It has been a little challenging. But we have been trying hard to grow our teaching pool. (I know that doesn't really make sense, but I can't really think very well in English, or Tagalog.... It's kind of frustrating jajaja). Also we dropped our first investigator, which was really sad. More like she dropped us though. We were walking to her house and she saw us coming and was like "Sisters, I quit. I haven't read your book yet, and I am not ready to." We have had like four or five lessons with her. It was kind of funny how it happened, but of course we were really sad. Hopefully someday she is ready for the message. 

So this week was my week to try new and exciting food. Hold on to your hats because it's going to get crazy. You will not believe what I have eaten. So first, I ate a chicken foot. Uh huh! It's true! And you eat the fingers and everything. It was kind of weird, but it wasn't bad. Just the idea of it was weird. They have all the little stands they call barbecue, where they have squewers and then you pick what you want and they bbq it for you. So that is how I ate the chicken foot. Then, chicken intestine.... So it was yummy. Basically tasted like chicken meat (duh) but a little more rubbery. The ward mission leader was with us when I ate this and he was laughing so hard. It was pretty funny. I also ate blood blocks. I didn't know what they were, but Sister Sandoy was like oh its mud blocks. So we got them then come to find out it's like hardened blood and other stuff. That was weird. And last but not least, I ate a chicken head!!! Yes, a real chicken head! You just eat the whole thing, brain, eyes and all. It was actually pretty yummy! But there was one bite that was like squishy and juicy, that was the brain. It kind of freaked me out a little bit. But it was ok. So I think now I have eaten basically a whole chicken, or at least all the body parts, or most of them. So pretty interesting. Also here  sometimes they eat with their hands. Yesterday we had MCM and the ward missionaries made food for us. But we didn't have utensils or plates. So what they do it they get a banana leaf and put rice down the middle of it with the ulam on top (what you eat with the rice- like meat and sauce with vegetables). Then you just eat it with your hands. I didn't know that they is a technique to it, so I was just doing it, and it was really hard. But it looked really funny too and we were all laughing so hard. They taught me the right technique to it. You get the rice in your fingers and then use your thump as a shovel. I will teach you when I get home just in case we ever run out of utensils. 

So basically I think I always tell you about what we're eating. I guess that just shows how much I love food jaja. But I was reading this morning in the BOM and in Alma it talks about how when people hear the word of Christ then reject it's teaching, their hearts are harder than if they didn't even know it. I know that is true. It is hard to soften peoples heart. I know there are people here that are ready for the message of the gospel, we just need to find them. This work is true. It is hard, but it is worth it. I know that this is the true church and only through this church you can have true happiness. The Book of Mormon is the word of God. I love reading it so much. It gives me so much comfort and strength for whatever problems or obstacles come my way. This is the true Church of Christ. I love you all so much. Hope you all have a good week. Hello Family!!!! Kumusta??
Everything here is good. Just been super busy. I got all of your letters last week. They were so awesome! Thank you! Tell Grandma I just sent her a letter last week, and I will get another one off probably next week. Also I sent the letter to you guys too. So be excited.. Jk I don't even know what I wrote any more, because I wrote it so long ago haha. But it'll be exciting! Lots of details for you mom. You all look great it the pictures! Looks like you are having fun! I hope Grandma's birthday was good. And Dad's party was fun! Last week there was a holiday, All Saints day, and All Souls Day. Since there is always a lot of drinking so we had to be in our apartment at six for the first and second. It was pretty fun. We just talked and ate some food and like looked through our area book. Just the usual fun activities. But it was a nice little break. Last week we had transfers. So you know what that means?? I've been here for one whole transfer, or six weeks. Starting my seventh week now. I am a little sad because after this transfer it means that my training is over, which means that Sister Sandoy and I will be seperated.... :( Makes me a little sad, and right before Christmas too. So it's going to be a little hard, but it"ll be ok. Change is good, right? Speaking of change, I really wish Romney will be president.... Like really! Also some member told me of the big baguio or storm over there on the east coast. I hope everything is ok. I heard people died too. Sad!

So last week was Sister Allens last week here, she got transferred, so we had lunch at a members house after our studied, before weekly planning. They made sweet and sour pork. Holy cow it was delicious!!!!!! But guess what?? I ate a piece of pork and it had some fat on it, so I politely spit it our and guess what else it had on it? Little pig hairs. Yes I had the skin and everything in my mouth! Little pig hairs and all. Wow it was weird. And then they made us this sticky rice thing. It was kind of like mexican rice, or the same flavor. But it had like peices of meat in it too. And liver. Yes I ate liver too. It was interesting. Good, but not on my top faves yet.

So also, Sister Sandoy said that my sleep talking has returned. I was teaching a lesson in my sleep the other night, in Tagalog. It was pretty funny. She said that she was dreaming about teaching and she kind of woke up to hear me teaching too. I guess we are just synced now.... jajaja. But it was pretty funny.

Also something cool happened last night. We were in our furthest area. A member has a tryck and he was working with us, so we decided to go there, becuase usually it's expensive for us. We had planned to teach a less active member. He is an rm about 31 years old. We went to his house and he wasn't there. His dad (I think it is his dad) said that he was out. SOmetimes people are really vague here. Like if you ask them for directions they'll say, diyen long. Which means just over there. So we went out and we were standing by the tryck wondering who else we could visit. I said a little prayer asking that we would be able to find him. We had already been there for a couple of minutes when I said my prayer. And as soon as I closed it, he came walking up. He had been sitting in the dark over by a store and decided to come over. It was so cool. I know the lord answered my prayer and I know he acted on the prompting to come over to us. It was a really neat experience.

Well the time is far spent, there is little remaining.... Can you name that tune? (hint it's a hymn jaja) But I must go. I hope you guys have a great week. Thank you for all that you do for me. I love you all so much!!!!!!!!! This church is true!

Hello Family! How are you guys doing?? How is school and everything? Holy cow I can't believe that it is October already, and actually October is almost over... Holy cow! That is so cool to hear about all the sisters that are preparing for missions. I was reading Jacob 5 today and it talks about how if the righteous get stronger in the last days the Lord is going to take care of the wicked. I may have forgotten the exact words, and maybe I interpreted it wrong, but I feel with the lowering of the age for missions it is enabling the youth to be stronger. I love it. I know this work and church is true and it is only though this gospel that we can be truly happy. I love it so much. This week was a little challenging, but it is ok. We all have challenging weeks. We did a lot of walking. And when I say a lot, I mean A LOT! Thursday, Friday and Saturday was basically all walking. The hearts of the people here are kind of hard. Our first and last appointment on Saturday was at 7:30 pm..... But it's ok. At least we were able to teach one person. He is one of our investigators. He didn't really seem interesting before, but on Saturday he had questions for us, and really seemed interested. So that made us really happy. It was a good way to end the day. They language is ok. It is slowly, slowly coming. But sure enough, it's coming.  Oh last week I was reading in 2 Nephi 9:51 and it says we will "delight is fatness". It reminded me of when Jesse came home from his mission and said that we are all going to be fat and happy. It was pretty funny! I guess that I just need to remember that here. Everybody says that I am going to gain weight because of the rice. It hasn't hit me yet, the weight gain, so maybe I'll be fortunate and not gain weight..... Haha, we'll see though. 

Sometimes the people here will say something in english, but we pronounce our letters different, so I will have no idea what they are saying. One of the words is graham. They pronounce it "grey-ham". They have a dessert here that is really yummy, its graham crackers with like cream or something layered they fruit and coconut jelly cubes on the top. It is really good. But I had no idea what they were saying. So I just ate it. About half way through I realized that it was graham what they were trying to say. It was really funny. The food here is really yummy. This morning for breakfast we ate noodles, like ramen noodles and it reminded me of Aunt Kathleen how she would eat chicken noodle soup for breakfast all the time. The other day we drank a Mountain Dew and it was so yummy. I think they are better here than back in the states... sorry Marshal!. I also tried corn nuts here, which were really good too! Yum. I am really hungry right now, so food is on my mind... haha. 

So for Christmas our mission is putting together a slide show of all of us. We each needed to take a picture of us with three words that has to do with the gospel. So on Thursday we took out picture. We got all ready, I even curled my hair and everything,. The second we walked outside I was dripping with sweat. It was probably the hottest day since we have been here. Holy cow I thought I was going to die! Then we have to ride in a tryke so my hair was out of control! But we took the pictures, and I think they turned out ok. Hopefully at least. But we seriously were so sweaty! It was really funny. After I put my hair in a pony and it was like all wet I was sweaty. gross huh?? 

It is harvest season now so there aren't a lot of people home. They are all out during the day. I think that is why it's been so hard for us. Even the people who might want to listen to us are gone, so it's been hard. But ok. At the end of each day it feels like the end of a disney land day. You know when you are so tired and your feet hurt, the only thing you want to do is sleep for hdays....... That's how it is. Also I will put my astringent on my face with a cotton ball and it reminds me of Zoolander because I get so dirsy walking on the streets all day with the wind blowing. It is pretty funny. 

So I have talked a lot, like usual. But I will try and send pictures this week. It didn't work last time so hopefully this time. Last week I wrote a really really long letter but I haven't been able to send it yet. Hopefully this week. I also wrote one to Grandma for her birthday but it probably won't get to her until way after. So just let her know that I'm thinking of her. You guys are the best. I love you so much. Thank you for all that you do for me. I know this church is true and God is helping us. We need to be obedient and help build up his kingdom. He loves us all so much and cares about us so much. Thank you for everything you do. I love you guys all so much! You are the best! Love you!

Hello Family!!! How is everybody doing?? Wow I have been typing up a storm today, I think the keyboard is going to break in half. I will answer more questions in a letter, so I hope you remember your questions because it'll be in a couple of weeks. haha. I am just glad that you get the letters :) Well things here are good. I took notes during the week so I wouldn't forget to tell you guys some important detail of my day, like what they do when people die. They have wakes. But it is intersting. They set up a tent in the street which is just outside there house. In one room the is the coffin, and then they have videoake (?spelling) which is just karaoke. and people just sit and sing and eat. For about a week or so. It is pretty interesting. haha They have videoke everywhere!!!! It is the thing to do here!  They have ice cream men here, but they ride around on little bikes with a huge box carrier thing on the side. You always know when they're coming becuase of their little jingle. It's the best. I haven't gotten ice cream from them yet, but I did eat ice cream for the first time here the other day. And it was delicious! Like ice cream always is haha. So something that is interesting is what they eat. I haven't really beens erved anything super disgusting yet, but they other day we were talking to this lady and she was cutting chicken feet...... I couldn't stop staring at it. Wow it was gross. They cut off the finger nails and stuff. I guess it's delicious. Maybe I'll be able to try that while I am here. They call it adidas, because of the shoes.... Gross huh?  Ahh I am running out of time and there is so much I want to say, so I will say it in my letter. But it was funny that mom talked about starts because I was thinking about them last night. Star in Tagalog is bituin, pronounced "between". I think that is really intersting. I feel like the starts are just between us and Heaven. But at the same time Heaven is so close. Like Grandma Palmer, Grandpa Colt, and Connie, I feel them close. The people on the other side are helping us. The stars are so beautiful. I know that we all have a purpose and Heavenly Father is mindful of all of us. That was confirmed last night with the beautiful sky. Heavenly Father knew that I would need that at the end of each day, and beautiful sunset and he gave it to me. He knows each one of us!!!!!!! I hope you all remember that and remember him always. Conference was so good yesterday and Saturday. My favorite talk was Marcus B. Nash. He shared my favorite song and favorite scripture. We need to have faith and show the lord we are willing the follow him. That is the most important thing we can do in this life. I love you guys so much. This church is so true! Thomas S Monson is a true prophet and guides this church today through revelation from Christ. I love this church so much and the happiness it gives to everybody who will heaken unto his word. Thank you all for your example and prayers. I really feel them and the strength they give me each day. Thank you so much! I love you all soooooooo much! More than words can describe. Thank you for everything! have a great week! More to come, in like two weeks..... haha from a letter. Love you all!

Pamillya,

Kumusta?  Well guess where I am right now?  Sitting on a couch in my mission presidents house in the Philippines.  Can you believe it??  Wow, it's been so crazy!  Our flight from LA to Hong Kong was pretty fun.  They fed us a lot of China-ish food, so that was good.  I was able to sleep and I totally forgot to take the Advil PM pill.  I'll just have to save those for a rainy day, or the flight home.  Well, after 38 hours of travel we made it!  Our flight was long from LA to Hong Kong.  That's all you really need to know.  Then when we landed we had 40 minutes until our next flight left...yep, they already had started to board.  Mom's panic mode clicked in with me, that's for sure!  The Lord was on our side and we made it just in the nick of time.  The airport in Hong Kong was really cool and I want to go and visit that city when I get back, it seems really cool as well.  That flight was about 14 hours long when we flew to Manilla.  We went through customs  then we were met by some guy.  When we asked what his name was he said Barack Obama...hahaha, funny one.  We think he is a Stake President or something, but we have no idea.  We also gave him our passports and he asked us why we did that and we didn't know so he told us two reasons; 1. To renew our visas, and 2. If we had any intentions of going home early he would burn them.  It was pretty funny. 

 Our group got all separated into three vans and we set out.  We were driving all over and they drive like how it is down in Mexico.  Like there are lanes, but they don't use them and the three second rule we learned in drivers ed. definitely doesn't apply to them.  It is pretty exciting.  We were all taken to a bus station and we got our tickets and waited for a little bit.  We put all our luggage on the bus which was pretty interesting.  The guy who had been helping us told us to get on the bus so we did.  Then the bus left.  They were playing Titanic on it and it was so loud and the driving was really jerky so between all of that I got super car sick.  It was crazy seeing everything and it is definitely different than the US.  but it is really cool.  Halfway through our drive I realized I had no idea when to get off or where we were going.  So I started to panic again, but I was told we had about two hours left so we'd be fine.  We made two stops on our trip.  The first stop we were really hungry so we bought this thing that looked like two lumps on a stick.  It was actually really delicious.  It was a banana maybe deep fried or something with a sugar coat.  Masirap.  So yummy!  Then we still had a forever long ride.  I'm pretty sure that it was around 6 hours in total, basically the ride was long & crazy, but it was really fun.  

Then the bus stops and there are people with tags outside so we knew we had made it!  I never thought it would happen.  One of the Elder's jokingly said we had two more hours left and I thought I was going to die but good thing that it was only five minutes long.  Woohoo!!  We finally made it after 38 hours of travel.

We had a little dinner of PB&J's with some chips and a banana.  The bananas here are soooo good!!!!!!  The sisters got to sleep in the mission home, which was nice because it was air conditioned.  The Elders slept in a house down the street with the assistants without AC (I think they like the Sister's better.....haha).  We went to bed at 8:30 and we were so tired we slept right through the whole night.  This morning we had our President interviews and it was pretty cool.  President Monahan shared Alma 31:32-35 and those scriptures were perfect for what I needed.  President and Sister Monahan are awesome!  They have really been taking great care of us.  Then all the local missionaries arrived (we're considered the foreign missionaries) and they are so sweet!  We ate lunch together, again PB&J sandwiches, yummy!   One of the sisters was so sweet.  She said that she had looked at my online profile before and she was so excited to meet me.  I don't really know what profile she meant, but it was really sweet.  After lunch we just had a little orientation, took some pictures, and had a testimony meeting.  It was super awesome.  Dinner is happening soon and these two cute Filipino ladies have been working all day so it's going to be delicious.

Tomorrow we find out our Kasamas (companions) and our area and I'm pretty sure we go straight there and get started.  Man, I'm so excited!!  I can't really understand anything that they say but the language will come, if I work hard.

I hope you're doing well!!  The Church is true!!  I love it so much and I am so excited and blessed to be here!  I love the people here already and know this love will just continue to grow.  Stay great and be a light to the world!  D&C 115:5  I love you!!  I'll send pictures soon so you can see the beautiful world I live in!

Hello po Family! How are you all doing?? I hope you're doing well! I hope you enjoyed conference! We get to watch it next week, so I am pretty excited about that. Well, if you want to here is the blog for our mission. Sister Monahan, our mission pres wife updates it and stuff. It's thebaguiobeat.blogspot.com. Also, if you are going to send packages ;) you don't need to do the PO Box, but the rest of the address is the same. And they seem to get here ok so you should be fine. Also they say to just use USPS because if you try any other cheaper way we have to pay taxes on our end which comes out of my support. So that is the best way. Also in the description just put gift so they don't tax it a ton. So anyways, can I get Rita's email address please? Thank you so much! Dad, you will be proud of me beuase my showers are so short now!!!! Record time! And yesterday I tried showering out of a bucket, because work on the street is other apartments don't have showers.... So I am just learning. It was pretty great! Last week I ate isda, or fish. It was yummy.... but it wasn't cleaned out! Yuck, and we just ate the skin and everything. It was a little interesting. We had New Missionary Training last week which was really awesome to see Sister Stapp. I missed her so much! She is really great. She said that they have been served like pig parts too.... Ehhhh. That'll be interesting. Sister Sandoy (my comp) and Sister Perina (I live with her) love eating at american resturaunts, but they always get rice and chicken. It is really funny! And sister Allen and i always get the American food. It is pretty funny. The big jokes never get old! They are pretty funny! I am substantially larger than everybody here, so that is fun. A little different. The driving here would make mom crazy!!! Today we fit seven people on a tryke, which is a motorcylcle with a side car. Four people in the side car, and three people on the bike. It was quite the experience. Only in the Philippines. The language is getting better. I am able to understand more in lessons, so that is good. The conversation is coming. It's still really difficult, but it's good. I'll get it some day!! I am really blessed to have such a great companion who helps me so much! Sister Sandoy is 26. Her mom and siblings are members. Her dad wasn't and he died like 16 years ago. She is really great. She was a nurse before this. We get along which is great. We don't joke a lot because of the language barrier, it's a little hard to understand each other, but it has been really great. Just a good experience over all! I have loved it, despite how hard it's been.

This morning we did something really fun. So it is harvesting season here (for rice) so we went on a tractor ride and stuff. It was really fun. I took pictures, but they don't really do it justice. It is really sooooo pretty here. I hope you can see and try and picture it. There are just fields and fields of rice. One of my favorite areas to go is St. Bartolemew (?spelling) but the drive there is just all rice fields. it is so pretty!!!

Well things here are going well. This church is true!! Thank you for everything you guys do for me! I love you all sooo much! You are the best and such good examples to me! Keep reading the book of mormon!!! It is true and will help you with everything in your life. My card isn't working so I will probably not have a lot of time to email you pictures, but I'll try and get a couple in for you, sorry!! Next week for sure! Love you all!

First Letter from the Philippines!

Hi Family!!!!!!!!!! How are you all doing?? Man it is good to write you! I missed it last week! I wrote you a long letter about our travels and everything so I won't talk too much about that. All you really need to know is that is took about 38 hours to get to the mission home. We were so exhausted!!!!!! On Friday I got my companion, her name is Sister Sandoy, and she is so great. She is from Southern Philippines, somewhere that I can't pernounce/remember. But she has been so helpful with everything. If she didn't know a little bit of english, I probably would be crying myself to sleep every night. But she is so awesome! I am really blessed to have her as my first companion. Our area is called Carmen and it is in the Rosales zone. Maybe you can google maps it and see where I am, because I have no idea!! We are opening an area so right now we are just trying to find people to teach. We have one investigator, maybe two. I don't understand a lot that goes on, so I think we have two. There are two sisters in our apartment and they are great. One is foreign (from the Utah) and the other one is native. She doesn't speak a lot of english, so I try my broken Tagalog on her and her companion translates for me haha. Heavenly Father is really so aware of us. I have felt that so much in my first area. I have the perfect trainer for me and I also have been blessed to be with those other two sisters. It has really given me hope seeing sister Allen (foreign) being able to communicate so well in this language. I know that there is hope for me!! :)
So we got here on Friday night and went to a family home evening. It was pretty fun. I didn't understand like anything, but the members are soooo nice and tried their hardest to communicate with me. The kids here are so cute! They love the foriegners, that's what I've been told at least. And I have been able to tell. They will touch my hair and poke my nose (because it sticks out). It is pretty cool. They fed us at FHE too. The food was really yummy! People here eat rice at every meal. And I don't mind it. It is really yummy! The weirdest thing I have eaten so far is this green jello stuff. It is really hard to explain, but it is like strips of gelatin that that is kind of slimy and stuff in like green coconut milk... Ok I'm not describing that well, but I have no idea how to describe it. It tasted pretty good, you just had to get past the look of it.

On Saturday we went to a baptism for an investigator for Sister Allen and Sister Parina. It was supposed to start at 2 but it didn't start until around 2:45... Funny. But I thought it was really great. Then he bore his testimony and even though I didn't know what he was saying, I could feel the spirit. But guess what?? He didn't show up to his confirmation. And they met with him last night and he said he didn't want to come to church any more. I don't know what happened between his baptism and church, but satan was working on him. So the other sister have half of the ward and we have the other half. So we are in the same ward, just different parts. Saturday two sisters in our ward walked around with us for a couple of hours to meet people that are in the ward. It was really nice of them to help us like that. Saturday night we had an appointment with a boy named Brother Jersey, he said that he could only meet after seven because he had something really important before. We went to the church for something that was told to me but I didn't understand and there was a fireside, and Brother Jersey was there. He hasn't taken the lessons yet, but I feel like he is ready to be baptized. If his something important is a fireside then that is really awesome. How many 18 boys would say that? We are teaching him tonight, so hopefully it goes well.

So yesterday was our first sunday, so of course we spoke and introduced ourselves to everybody. I tried my hardest to do it all in Tagalog. I hope they understood what I was trying to say. After the bishop asked if this was my second area because I knew Tagalog. So I guess that's a good thing. But when it comes to the understanding, that is a lot harder. In church I can get by because most of the vocab I know is church related. So that's good. They always call on my to pray or do a spiritual thought. Maybe because they want to give me practice or something. But it is pretty funny. After church we went to MCM (missionary something meeting) and PEC. It was about 3.5 hours of Tagalog. I think I understood about 1% of it. Every once in a while they would say my name and I would smile. Then they would say they should speak in english so I could understand, then somebody would say no we need to speak in Tagalog so she will learn, so they would continue. It is pretty funny.

So basically I am having a great experience. I can't wait until I get to the point where I understand what is being said. I feel like I am not helping a ton in my companionship, but I am trying. I really do love it here, despite the hotness and the water.... But that's ok. This is the Lords work. I am so honored and humbled to be able to be His servant here in the Philippines. It really is so humbling. The people here are so amazing!! Ang Simbahan ay totoo. Mahal ko ito. I love you family so much! Thank you for everything you do for me! Remember the Lord in all things. I always say to myself D&C 6:36-37. I love that scripture. Thank you and love you!!!!

Going, Going, Gone!

Caitlin is in the Philippines now! She called her family on Monday and sounded so ready and so excited to leave. I will post her new address as soon as I get it.

Last Week in the MTC!

Everybody! Caitlin only has one more week in the MTC! If you wanted to write to her while you're there, do it ASAP! :)   Here's her latest e-mail to her family:

Kumusta pamilia ko!!!!! Ok your Tagalog is great! You basically know as much as I do! Jokelong.... pero talaga (but seriously) btw I have a spanish key board again, so wish me luck on this email....

 

It sounds like you all are doing great!! I am so happy for Marshal for passing the test! And Jesse, but I think I already said that to him. Well you guys are the best and I think about you a lot! Today was our last time going to the temple for a while and I am a little sad. I kind of started to cry when we got there... I´´m turing into Mom.... But it was amazing as usual. I know I will be able to go in Manilla before I leave so that will be really cool. I will just have to wait a little bit for it. To answer some questions, mainly for mom, I am good with money, I have plenty I think. I got the dearelder yesterday, so thank you. If you have time, I kind of want a new pair of crocs. The ones that we bought together like the ballet flats and have the holes kind of in the back. Mine are all stretched out, so like probably a size 7, But if you dont have time, then don´´t worry about it. I´´m totally fine. Thank you so much! When we got our travel plans, one of the things I said was ¨¨Airport cinnamon rolls! Booya!¨¨ Great minds think alike I guess. So it was so exciting when we got our travel plans! We opened them as a district and basically all freaked out!!!!!!!! So we leave here around 4 thirty on monday. Then we´´ll fly to LA. from LA we go to Hong Kong. Hong Kong to Manilla then a threeish hour bus drive to Baguio.... So a lot of traveling. I can call you so I´´ll probably call at salt Lake or La... Depending on time and stuff. I dont think I¨¨ll have any time in Hong Kong because we only have an hour between our flights. But maybe Manilla, I am not sure. But for sure once in the states.

 

Ok there are two videos I want you guys to watch on the lds.org. First is ¨¨Arise¨¨ it is the youth theme song right now. Go to the youth page and type in arise in the search bar and it should be the first movie. Second movie is ¨¨Have I done any good¨¨ It is SOOOOO GOOOOOODDDDDDD!!!!! on lds.org go to resources tab, then video, audio, imagaes, click on videos, then on the right side there is a list of all these things, click on mormon channel stories and it should be the first one that comes up. It is with Alex Boye and some girl. But it is awesome!

 

So yesterday we were teaching and we asked our investigator if she had any questions before she got baptised and she asked like how it happens. So we were ezplainging to her how it happened. But non of us knew how to say pool or faunt. So I said ¨¨quarto ng tubig¨¨ which means a room of water. In the lesson we were laughing soooo hard!!!! Then when we got back to class, our teacher told everybody and we were laughing so hard again!!!! And best of all, guess what pool or faunt is in Tagalog? Pool, or faunt..... Oh boy. But it was so funny! Last week we had TRC which is where members come and act like themselves and we teach them. So we were teaching this lady and she was so sweet. Her parents are from the Philippines, but she is from California, and she knows Tagalog. The spirit was so strong in the lesson. It was so cool. Some of the time we didn´´t know what she was saying, but it was really cool to be able to feel the spirit that stong in another language. It was a really special experience. ç

 

I cant believe I am almost done with the MTC! AHHH it´´s so crazy! I have absolutely loved it here. It has been such a great experience! Joe when you come here just embrace it and love it, because it really is the best! Always have a positive attitude and work hard! I am a little nervous, but who isn´´t when they are going to another country to live. I know it is going to be so awesome!!!! I really can´´t wait!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi everyone! Sorry it has taken me so long to give you an update! Here's the last e-mail I've received from Caitlin:

Week 5

Thanks so much for the email! I loved hearing about your trip!!!! It sounded like so much fun! When I get back i want to come too! You guys are the best! Thank you so much for always writing me and thinking about me! I really appreciate. Also, let me know if there is anything in particular you want to hear about in the email or letter. I might leave some things out, so just let me know.

 

So every Sunday we get to watch "music and the spoken word". I love it so much!! Last week they sang "consider the Lilies" and it reminded me of grandma a little bit! Also, Joseph, I don't know if you have seen this mormon message or not yet, but you HAVE to watch it. It's called "Sanctify Yourselves". It is soooooo good!!!!!! WATCH IT!

 

Mom, I know you just sent a package, and it doesn't have to be now but just before we leave, Sister Evans was saying how she always wanted a composition notebook because she always sees then in American movies but they don't have them in New Zealand. So if you have the chance and are going to send me a package within the next four weeks, then could you possibly send me that for her please? Thank you soooo much! Also thank you so much for the packages that you guys always send! They are so fun to get! We drank sparkling cider last night to celebrate p-day eve.. hahaha

 

Our goal for our companionship has been trying to stay on task and focus. We have a really hard time with that, but we have been doing a lot better!! So yesterday I was reading in my study journal, sharing what I had studied that morning, and I can across this sentence, "But I need to focus on the" and there wasn't an end to it. We were laughing so hard because I was writing about staying focused on something and I wasn't focused. It was so funny!!! I wish I knew what I was going to write... Oh well ;)

 

Also, last week I slept talked again! But this time I had a conversation with my kasama. She thought I was awake. I guess I kept saying that we need to figure out what to study for personal study and she was like do you want me to close the blinds? Then I said, hindi (no) we just need to figure out what to study! It was so funny! I don't remember any of it. But the next morning mga kasama ko (my companions) were telling me what happened and I was laughing so hard I started crying. Its seriously was so funny, this little blurb doesn't give it justice.

 

So I meet sometimes with one of the teachers to do my language study plan, just because I need a little extra help. He is so helpful and gives me really great ideas! But last week he came in to check up on me and how my study plan was going and how everything was going. It was going well, but I was having a hard time remembering the words that I had studied like a couple days before. He asked why that would be like that. And it was obviously because I wasn't using them. So then he challenged me to be 100% SYL (speak your language). I was so nervous, but I said yes!! That was on Thursday and by 6 that night, I was so tired I thought I was going to fall asleep standing up! It took it out of me. But each day gets a little better. We always have a dictionary with us. It is incredible how fast we have learned and how much we already know! I still need to work a lot, and I still don't know a lot, but it is suprising how much I do know. It is pretty cool!

 

So, I saw Rachel as she was getting to the MTC. It was so nice to see her, but it made me a little sad because she has just seen at least you Dad. But she said hi to me for you and it made me so happy! She is so great! I have seen her a lot which has been really nice. Also I have seen Micheal a couple times and he is actually roommates with two elders in my district. Also I have seen Jenny Jones. She is seriously the best!! It is always so great seeing her! I feel like she always knows exactly the right thing to say to me.

 

Ahhh I feel like I have so much more to say, but so little time! The District above us is leaving next week!! That means that we are going to be one of the old districts. (there were three that came in with us). Next week there are going to be 37 new missionaries in our zone. It is going to be craziness!!! This has gone by so fast! I can't believe we are about to get our travel plans!!!! AHHHHHHHHHH so crazy!!!!

 

So I should probably wrap this up, but this church is so true. Everytime I read the scriptures or study, or anything it is confirmed to me. I have been noticing the word "diligence" in the scriptures. It is everywhere! And it's always after somebody was diligenct, they were blessed. And I know that is true. If we are diligent, the Lord will bless us!

So I talked in my sleep again. I have really been loving the hymn ¨¨lead kindly light¨¨ and I guess I was humming/singing that. then at the end I said karapitan which means authority. But our teacher always says it in this high voice and it´´s so funny!! So that it what I said. I just wish I could speak as well when I am awake as I do when i am asleep.

The investigators we are teaching are real people.... I would tell you who they are, but I dont want to ruin it for Joseph if he needs to learn a language. But they are real people. We are teaching two. Brother Vargus and Sister Mary Kate. Mary Kate has a baptisimal date which is really awesome. And we have only had one lesson with bro Vargus, so the baptisimal date is coming, hopefully!!! But it is pretty cool teaching them! it is crazy how even though I can´´t speak that well, the spirit does most of the teaching. It kind of fills in the blanks of what we are trying to say. We used to just put ang´´s and ng´´s in wherever it sounded right, but now we know that that actually changes the meaning of the senctence. Depending on where you put those you can make a sentence say either The people killed Jesus Christ or Jesus Christ killed the people just by changing the ang´´s and ng´´s around.... So who knows what we have been saying! I´´m just surprised our investigator wasnt laughing the whole time and she actually understood what we were saying! But that is really just the spirit!

On Sunday nights we get to watch a movie and it is a church movie or like a general conference talk. They usually have four rooms with movies in them. This week we watched Legacy. it was pretty good but kind of corny! The guy that played Joseph Smith was weird.... but that´´s ok. And it´´s always like super awkward when there is kissing and stuff becuase the Elders all  makes like gasping noises.... and it´´s just awkward haha....

Yesterday my teaching was doing a role play with an elder in our district and the elder was reading something at the end and it said amen, and brother ah mu said amen too, even though he wasn´´t supposed to and we all started kind of laughing... but then brother Ah mu kept laughing which made us all laugh even harder. Then we had to do roleplay too and he said to say a prayer, because that we the whole point of what we were doing. And he was like we would have said a prayer but I had a wiff of the giggles so I couldn´´t! It was sooooo funny!!!!!!!!!!!! So now we keep saying it. And you know me, how I laugh at everything, so it is just so funny!!! Brother Ah mu is hilarious!

I had a list of things to say and I think i said all of them but I still have a little time left. Woohoo!!!!

Kumusta pamilya!! I'll just send this to the parents and then you can forward it on if you would like. Ok so I only have 22 minutes left because I was trying to figure out how to print.... DUH! But it sounds like you are all doing well. Thank you so much for sending me letters and emails. It really brightens my day and gives me a little encouragement! So thank you! I am so excited for Jesse and Marshal! Good luck on your test, let me know how it goes! Be sure to tell Jessica, Berklee, Sacha and the boys Hi for me! I miss you guys a lot, but I try not to think about it too much so I just stay busy, which is super easy to do here considering each and every minutes is planned out for us. So do answer a few questions.... the food here is, uhh ok.... There are good days and bad days. But time is so weird here. We will have just eated lunch but it feels like it's time for bed. Then after we eat dinner we still have four hours of class so when that is finally done it feels like we just have another meal to go to. Some elder here said that somebody could convince him that it was breakfast time and seven in the evening, and that is totally true! Time is wierd here! I have seen a lot of people that I know here which has been really great. It is always so nice to see a familiar face every once in a while. As for the tagalog, I can understand some of it. We are getting another progressing investigator this week, so then we will have two investigators. We challenged our other one to baptism and she accepted. So YAY!!! We were so excited for her! The Tagalog is coming along.... We have been doing a lot of grammar which is hard, but it will help a ton! My district is really awesome! We quote "Nacho Libre" like 24-7... so that keeps things fun and lively. Some of the Elders though I feel are a little scared of us, being girls and all, but they are still really great! My zone is super awesome too! There is a district that is leaving here next monday, so that is really exciting! I am super excited for them!!! No more sleep talking that I know of yet, I think we are all pretty tuckered out so we are in pretty deep sleeps. But it was really funny when it did happen!!!

 

Something funny that you guys can say is "jokelang" then do a peace sign too! It just means like "joking" or something.... It's Tagalish, but our investigator did it and it was really funny! We do it all the time now! There were other funny things that have happened, but I can't remember..... But I wrote them down in my journal, which I don't have with me, but I will write a normal letter and let you know about that, because they are just too funny not to share!

 

Today we were able to go to the temple at 6:50, which was really awesome!! Then we ate in the cafeteria, which was delich!! YUMMY! Now we are emailing and I need to take a nap today. Yesterday I feel asleep in class, which never happens to me. but we were watching a movie and the lights went of and I was gone. So I need to take a little snooze so I can focus during the day. Serisouly, I am sooooo tired all the time!! But it's ok because somehow I am still able to do everything I need to (I know that is the Lord helping me).

 

I have two teachers, one is Brother Ah Muh. He is really awesome. He is from like Minnesota or something, but he looks Mexican. He is soooo funny too! And then we have Sister dayley, and she is really awesome too. She's from idaho. They both served in the Philippines. Brother Ah Muh served in Bagiuo, so we have been getting tips from him. I feel like I have so much more to say, but the time thing is stressing me out. So maybe I'll say some stuff in Tagalog for you. I will just bear my testimony because that is what I get the most practice with!

 

Alam ko po na totoo and Simbahan ni Jesucrist ng mga Banal na Huling Araw. Alam ko po na babyad-sala ni Jesucristo na kalsalan nito. Ahhh the time is almost up and there is more I want to say. But that just said I know the church is true and through the atonement we can be cleansed from sin. but don't google translate that just in case it is wrong.... which there is a possibility that that is true. Oh and I remembered a dream I had. Short version... Mom and I saved deer from being eaten by a wolf. Somebody told Honda (the car place) about it and they said they would pay for my mission and give me a car when I got back.... Dad, you were very excited about it. It was pretty funny!! Hola Mama! Thank you so much for your email! Ok so Tuesday is my P-day, so I will have thrity minutes to write to you every Tuesday on the computer. I have an idea though so I can use my time more wisely for the comp, there is this thing called dearelder.com, it is pretty easy to use. I was thinking that if you wanted to you guys could write that and then I could email you and I would already know what to say because I had it all planned out! If not, then I can totally have time to do it all in thirty minutes, it just might not be as detailed as you like :)

Well it sounds like your trip to Jackson was so much fun!! I want to hear if that girl embarrassed Joseph or not!!! That would be so funny! I am gald you were able to spend time with Rick and Claudia too! That sounds like a blast!

So basically all day, e'ryday all I do is STUDY!!!! We wake up around 6-6:15, depending on what I have to do to get ready. We need to be in our classroom at 7 everymorning for daily planning, and then we have breakfast at 7:45. After that we have classroom instruction, until usually 11:25. Depending on what we are doing our teacher will be there. Sometimes we are teaching our investigator so he isn't there. When we aren't teaching during that time, we just study, study, study!!! Then after that, we have personal study time for an hour. That is my personal favorite, because we are able to just study the Book of Mormon or Preach my Gospel for a whole hour and not have to worry about the language. Then we have lunch. After lunch we have gym time, then language study. That is just where we study the language (jajaja). Then something else, I can't really remember, then dinner. After dinner we have class until 9:10, and we can't go back to our residence until 9:30, so we just study some more and stuff like that. Usually by that time we are pretty slap happy, so we just laugh a lot. Then we go back to our room, get ready for bed and write in our journals. Lights out at 10:30, even though I wish it was 9:30. I think I am just going to be tired for the next 18 months because it is just so exhausting. But every day I find the enerygy to do the things that I need to, which is definitely the Lord helping me. So that is basically it for regualar days. It is just a ton!!!!!!!!!! of learning. Sunday's are the BEST! I love them so much! You get to walk up to the temple and it is so nice! We also have different meetings, and that is really great and spiritually uplifting too!

So Sister Stapp is one of my companions. She is so great. She is the one from California. She actually worked with Lizzy at Disneyland. So ask her is she remembers her. Her first name is Julia. She said they would go to church together, she worked in janitorial. Then Sister Evans. She is from New Zealand. She is really great too! She kind of talks a lot though! But it is still good for when i am done talking, she can just talk and talk and talk. My district is really awesome. It is just my companionship and then three sets of Elders. They are really great. Sometimes they really remind me of Joseph, just because they are all that age, but they are awesome. My teacher's name is Brother Ah Muh and he is really awesome. I didn't even know he spoke english until probably Friday or Saturday, so it was quite the shock when we spoke english to us. But he is really great!

As for the language, it is hard!! We have taught three lessons in Tagalog so far. Our next one is tomorrow. It gets better each time, but it is still really hard to communicate. But I can totally see the Lord's help with it. I can pray, say my testimony, ask some questions, and say some things about the gospel in Tagalog. I can also intorduce myself and my companions and stuff like that. It is really amazing how I have learned all of that and I have only been here for almost a week. I would not have been able to do this if it wasn't for Heavenly Fathers help and the atonement. In Relief Society, the guest speaker (we don't have lessons, just speakers) said to wear out the atonement. I can already feel that I have a little bit, but I need to wear it our more!

Ok my time is almost up, but one funny thing before I end. One of the Elders when they moved in on their mirror there was a sticky note that said "Hey baby, you are look good in that tie!" hahahahaha jajajajaj it makes me laugh every time!!

Kumusta po kayo?  That means how are you...just for your fyi!  Then you would respond "Mabuti" something something something I can't really remember.  But "mabuti" is my fave word b/c it sounds like "my booty".  Pretty funny!!

But the MTC Pres. gave us permission to write a quick letter and let you know that we are totes awesome!  Just kidding, but seriously.  Today has been super crazy busy, but Awesome. I am in a threesome with Sister Evans and Sister Stapp (I think those are their names jajajajajajajaj) The language is pretty hard but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it soon  But basically it has just been really awesome.

Funny story to keep you laughing.  I was talking to a girl in my zone and we were walking outside and I totes ran into a pole!! It was so funny!  We were laughing so hard.  I was wondering what she was looking at all concerned like,

but I found out shortly after.

I think I packed too much but at least I'll be extra extra prepared for anything that comes my way!!
